Degreasers
An automotive degreaser has one job, but the soil decides which one works. Grease, oil, and road film break down under an alkaline degreaser. Tar, asphalt, and adhesive do not, because they need a solvent to dissolve them. Pick the chemistry for the mess, then dilute concentrates to the job with the dilution calculator so you are not paying full strength for light work.
How to Choose
Engines, chassis, and fleet equipment: Red Wasp Degreaser HD 727. Water-based heavy duty degreaser with no solvent fumes. Exterior and equipment use only.
One degreaser for the whole shop: Black Scorpion Degreaser 728. High-alkaline (pH 13) degreaser and presoak for engines, tires, and wheel wells, and interiors at a light dilution.
Interiors, fabric, and upholstery: Purple Stuff Degreaser 725. Fragrance-free concentrate that dilutes from light interior cleaning to heavier degreasing.
The toughest buildup: Dynomite Degreaser 729. The strongest degreaser in the Stinger lineup, a high-alkaline butyl formula that dilutes as far as 50:1.
Tar, asphalt, adhesive, and wrap or PPF residue: Orange Crush 731. D-Limonene citrus solvent that dissolves what alkaline degreasers slide over. Use it with a chemical-resistant spray head.
Spot work on tools, parts, and decals: Ultimate Orange Degreaser. Aerosol citrus degreaser and adhesive remover, VOC compliant and body shop safe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which degreaser do I need?
Match the chemistry to the soil. If the mess is greasy or oily, use an alkaline degreaser like Red Wasp, Black Scorpion, or Dynomite. If it is sticky or tarry, use a solvent like Orange Crush. An alkaline product run over tar means a lot of scrubbing for little result.
What is the difference between a water-based and a solvent degreaser?
Water-based degreasers clean through surfactants and alkalinity, so there are no solvent fumes and storage is simpler. Solvent degreasers dissolve tar, adhesive, and wax, but give off vapor and strip any wax or sealant they touch. Check our VOC compliance page before ordering solvent products.
Can I use a degreaser on interior surfaces?
Only the right one at the right dilution. Purple Stuff and Black Scorpion work on interiors when diluted, sprayed onto a microfiber towel, and wiped. Never use Red Wasp inside a vehicle: a heavy-duty exterior degreaser can dry out and discolor vinyl, plastic, and leather.
Is degreaser safe on aluminum and chrome?
Test first. Alkaline degreasers can stain or dull bare and polished aluminum. Keep the dwell short, never let the product dry on the surface, and rinse completely.
