12V 5Ah Battery for the Raven
This is the 5Ah pack for the Raven 3-inch cordless polisher, sold on its own as a spare or replacement. It carries twice the capacity of the smaller pack, which puts it around eighty minutes of working runtime depending on how hard you load the tool, and its taller case lets the polisher stand upright on the bench between passes instead of lying on its side on a pad or a panel.
This is the one to run when you are working continuously: a full hood, a set of door panels, a hatch and quarter, or any session where stopping to swap batteries breaks your rhythm more than the extra few ounces cost you. It also runs cooler under the same load than the smaller pack does, which is a quiet durability advantage covered in the questions below. If your work is mostly short precision passes on mirrors and pillars, the 2.5Ah pack is the better choice. More tools in the Barjack range.
What Makes it Great:
⏱️ Around 80 Minutes of Runtime: Double the capacity of the 2.5Ah, which is the difference between finishing a panel set and stopping halfway through to find a charger.
🧍 Stands the Tool Up: The taller case acts as a base, so the polisher sits upright on the bench rather than resting on a compound-loaded pad or against paint.
❄️ Runs Cooler Under Load: Spreading the same current across more cells means less heat per cell, and heat is what shortens a lithium pack's life more than use does.
🔁 Fewer Interruptions: On continuous correction work, the real cost of a small battery is not capacity. It is breaking concentration every forty minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 5Ah worth it over the 2.5Ah?
If you work in continuous sessions, yes, and not only for the runtime. The larger pack draws the same current from more cells, so it works less hard, runs cooler, and typically survives more charge cycles. If your Raven mostly does short spot work in tight areas, the smaller pack is genuinely better for handling and the extra capacity goes unused. Buy the one that matches how you actually work.
Does the heavier battery hurt control?
On flat panel work, no. The added mass sits low and behind the head, and most people find it steadies the machine rather than fighting them. Where you notice it is overhead work and awkward angles, holding the tool inverted under a bumper lip or up against a pillar, which is exactly where the smaller pack earns its keep. Shops running the Raven hard usually keep both and grab whichever suits the panel.
Why would a larger pack last more charge cycles, not just longer per charge?
Because of how lithium cells age. A pack's capacity is spread across multiple cells, and the current the tool demands gets divided among them. A bigger pack splits that same demand more ways, so each cell works at a lower rate and generates less heat. Heat accelerates the chemical degradation that permanently reduces capacity, which is why a larger battery used for the same job tends to stay healthy longer than a smaller one worked harder.
Can I leave it on the charger between jobs?
Better not to make it a habit. Modern chargers stop charging when a pack is full, so there is no immediate danger, but a lithium battery held continuously at full charge ages faster than one stored partially charged. Pull it off once it is done. If the tool is going into storage for weeks, leave the pack somewhere around half charge rather than topped off.
When should I replace a battery instead of recharging it?
When runtime drops noticeably and consistently, not after one disappointing session. A pack that used to carry you through a panel set and now quits in twenty minutes has lost real capacity and will not recover. Other signs to replace rather than nurse along: the case has swollen even slightly, it gets hot rather than warm during normal use, or it refuses to take a charge after sitting completely dead. Any of those three, stop using it.
