That one habit removes the entire problem, and it applies to any wax or sealant-carrying soap, not just this one.

How does a wax soap actually reduce water spots?

Water spots are mineral deposits, not water. When a droplet sits on a panel and evaporates, whatever was dissolved in it stays behind as a ring. The sealant layer this soap deposits lowers surface tension so water sheets off rather than holding as droplets, which means far less water stays on the panel to evaporate in place.
